To offset tuition increases for Canadian undergraduate students from outside Quebec:
- McGill University is launching a $3,000 Canada Award. New undergraduate students starting in the fall 2024 or the winter 2025 terms who are studying in Arts, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Music, Education, Architecture, Nursing and Science will receive McGill’s Canada Award. Approximately 80% of new Canadian students from outside Quebec coming to McGill will be eligible for the new award for up to four years.
- Concordia University is offering bursaries of up to $4,000. The “Canada Scholars Award” is for undergraduate applicants in all programs and will be offered for the duration of the degree as long as academic performance is maintained. The award will be automatically applied and the amount offered will be based on their grades, ranging from $1,500 for a B-minus to $4,000 for an A-plus
Today marks 4 years since the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 (Flight PS752). Starting from 2023-2024 for five years, Canada will disburse 176 $25,000 scholarships through the Flight PS752 Commemorative Scholarship Program. The scholarships will be offered in the name of each of the victims and disbursed to international and Canadian students studying in colleges and universities in Canada. If a student’s field of study aligns with the victims’ academic and professional backgrounds or focuses on air disaster prevention, students may be eligible to apply. Scholarships are for one academic year. Eligible scholarship holders may reapply for the following year. Approximately 30% of the scholarships will be awarded to Canadian applicants and 70% to international applicants. For the current academic year, more than thirty students have been selected to receive the scholarship, several of whom have ties to the victims of Flight PS752. The deadline is in October.

UNIVERSITY
January 15: The deadline to submit a completed application to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC). Note: The OUAC will continue to process applications received after this date and distribute them to the Ontario universities; however, specific university deadlines will apply.
COLLEGE
On or before February 1: The deadline to submit a completed application to ontariocolleges.ca to receive equal consideration for admission to programs. Apply to highly competitive programs on or before this date. After this date, colleges consider applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until programs are full. Applicants are encouraged to complete their applications well before the Equal Consideration Date, as website volumes on the online application are at their highest at this time.
CANADIAN ARMED FORCES
January 31: The deadline to apply for Paid Education with The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Award: Ten awards (full tuition and fees).

University of Guelph: Top Scholarships
Worth $42,500 each, the following scholarships recognize academic excellence (minimum of 90% admission average) and leadership:
- Nine President’s Scholarships.
- Lincoln Alexander Chancellor’s Scholarships. In addition, students must be Indigenous; or a person with a disability; or a racialized person.
Award: $8,250 annually for four years, plus one $9,500 stipend for a full-time summer research assistantship position after first year.
Deadline: January 25.
University of Guelph-Humber: Founders’ Academic Merit Scholarship
Award: Ten $36,000 ($9,000 X 4) total funding per recipient.
Deadline: January 25.
OTHER
DEWALT Trades Scholarship
Applications are open to high school seniors, high school graduates or current college undergraduate students who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year college or vocational technical school for the upcoming academic year. They must be citizens of the United States or Canada. Students must be majoring in a trade construction, industrial, motor/power sector, mechanics, or technology degree/certificate. Award: Forty $5,000 awards.
Deadline: January 17, 3 p.m. CT, or when 1,000 applications have been received.
Schulich Leader Scholarships
Nomination required.
Every high school in Canada can select one graduating student. Nominees must be enrolling in an eligible STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) program at a Schulich partner university.
Award: One hundred scholarships awarded across twenty partner universities. $120,000 scholarships are designated for students pursuing an engineering degree, and $100,000 scholarships are designated for students pursuing a science, technology, or math degree.
Deadlines: Nomination deadline: January 30. The deadline for the scholarship application, including reference letters, is February 20.
RBC Future Launch Scholarship for Indigenous Youth
Open to students who identify as Status Indian, Non-status Indian, Inuit, or Métis.
Awards: Twenty scholarships. Two of these scholarships are reserved for students majoring in disciplines related to the financial-services industry.
Scholarships are valued at:
• $10,000 CAD per year for university studies.
• $5,000 CAD per year for college or vocational studies.
Scholarships are renewable for up to four consecutive years or until the degree or diploma is obtained for the program of study under which the scholarship is awarded.
Deadline: February 7, 1 p.m. EST.

Lance ton balado Contest
Practice oral French by creating a podcast. Students are invited to come together in groups of up to three people and create a podcast in their preferred style. Many prizes are to be won: travel to, and participate in, the Salon du livre de l’Outaouais, podcast production with an expert, etc.

Fighting Blindness Canada’s (FBC) Young Leaders Mentorship Program
This program is designed to connect Young Leaders living with vision loss with mentors who will offer support in sessions over a nine-month term. The sessions will be designed to help mentees develop their skills, improve confidence, and learn from their mentor’s experiences. To participate, you must be between 15-30 years old; living in Canada; living with vision loss; have access to a computer and internet connection; able to attend nine one–hour sessions over Zoom.
Deadline: January 19.
Abeel Foundation: Shaping the Future Sponsorship Program (must be approved to participate–contact Samuel Ajobo at sajobo@abeelfoundation.ca for more information)
Students, using their chosen forms of expression, will showcase their vision of a future free from systemic racism (specifically Anti Black racism). Active participation of Black students within these teams, who will collaborate in groups of 1-5 to prepare their submissions, is encouraged.

Part-Time Job Opportunities with Young Canada Works (YCW)
YCW offers short-term jobs and paid internships to students and graduates, including part-time opportunities during the school year. The YCW program creates approximately 2,300 job opportunities per year in the fields of heritage, arts, culture and official languages. The 2024-25 campaign has launched. Apply here.
